Top 10 Indian airports that were declared as “Busiest” in 2017-18
With more than 100 million passenger traffic during FY 2016-17, the Indian aviation industry is working things up to attain the position of “world’s third largest civil aviation market”.

As per the reports published by AAI (Airport Authority of India), these are the top 10 observed busiest airports in terms of – passenger traffic, cargo movements & also aircraft movements.
1. The Indira Gandi International Airport – the civil aviation hub of Delhi
The IGI airport serving as a primary civil aviation hub for NCR of Delhi has topped the list of being India’s busiest airport. The airport was on the 16th position as busiest airport across the world in 2017 & on the 7th position as the busiest airport in Asia in terms of passenger’s traffic.
The airport is busiest because of its great utilization of Airbus A320 aircraft. Great plans are in the process towards the expansion of the airport – so that it can easily manage footfall of 100 million passengers by 2030.
Here, the Passengers Movement was 65,691,662, Cargos Movement was 963,032 tonnes and Aircraft Movements: 441,299.
2. Chhatrapati Shivaji International airport in Mumbai
Chhatrapati Shivaji International airport falls on the second position as the busiest airport in terms of passenger traffic & cargo movement. This airport was on the 29th position as the busiest airport in the world & on the 14th place as the busiest airport in Asia – in terms of passenger traffic.
Here, the Passenger Movements was 48,496,430, Aircraft Movements: 320,689 and Cargo Movements: 906,321 tonnes.
3. Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru
This airport ranked third in position as India’s busiest airport & was also on the 34th position as the busiest airport of Asia in the year 2017. With more than 600 aircraft movement a day, the airport served 25.04 million passengers alone in 2017. The airport has been adding to its expansion ever since developed & finally achieved the title of “World’s first fully solar-powered airport”.

4. Chennai International Airport in Chennai
Chennai International Airport is located in Tirusulam which is 21 km away from the city of Chennai. The airport falls fourth in the category of the busiest airport in terms of aircraft movement, passenger traffic & cargo movement. The airport also achieved the title of the 50th busiest airport in Asia in 2017.
During FY 2017-18, the airport alone handled the footfall of 20 million passengers. Here, Passenger Movements was observed 20,361,482, Aircraft Movements: 155,123 and Cargo Movements: 417,787 tonnes.
5. Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport in Kolkata
It falls fifth in the list of the busiest airport in the world during FY 2017-18. The airport attracts major traffic from the eastern part of the country & served single-handedly 20 million passengers in 2017.
Here, Passenger Movements was observed 19,892,524, Aircraft Movements: 148,802 and Cargo Movements: 163,323 tonnes.
6. Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad
This airport is located in Shamshabad, 22 km away from the city of Hyderabad. The airport was ranked as the 6th busiest airport in the world in FY 2017-18 in terms of passenger traffic & cargo movements.
The airport in Fy 2017-18 was able to manage 18.2 million passengers single-handedly.

7. Cochin International Airport in Kerala
This airport is situated in Nedumbassery in the Kerala state was found the 7th busiest airport in India. The airport handled around 10.2 million passengers in FY 2017-18.
Here, Passenger movements was observed 10,172,839, Aircraft movements: 68,772 & Cargo movements: 90,446 tonnes.
8. Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad
Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport that serves Gandhinagar & Ahmedabad was ranked as the 8th busiest airport in India in terms of its passenger traffic, aircraft movement & cargo movement. The airport was found serving around 9.2 million passengers during FY 2017-18.

9. Pune Airport in Pune
The Pune airport scored the rank of the 9th busiest airport in FY 2017-18. This airport alone handled 8 million passengers in 2017. This is the Indian airport with two runways but only one is utilized for the purpose of flights & the other runway is utilized by IAF for movement of their military aircraft.
Here, Passenger Movements was observed 8,164,840, Aircraft Movements: 56,021 and Cargo Movements: 41,566 tonnes.
10. Dabolim Airport/Goa International Airport
Dabolim Airport or Goa International Airport scored the position as the 10th busiest airport in India. The airport in the year 2017 was found handling more than 50000 flights (inclusive of all seasonal, chartered & Scheduled ones).
The airport was found catering to more than 7.6 million passengers in FY 2017-18.
